What makes it Special? The award-winning 117,000 gallon aquarium
Entertainment Attraction: Mermaids. And no, we are definitely not 15th century fishermen confusing them with manatees.
Number of Rooms: 291
Overview:
The most highly-praised pool that we have ever come across has gained a reputation for more than one reason. But just so we’re clear on this – the primary reason is mermaids. This is not just for their fantastical nature, or the fact that your 4-year old daughter will go bonkers mistaking her for a certain Disney character. It’s because playing a mermaid requires legitimate grace and skill, something which we sorely lack. Then there are the sharks.
OK, it’s not just sharks, (three species of which are featured). The aquarium of the Silverton Casino Hotel is home to more than 4,000 tropical fish and three species of stingrays. Feeding shows are scheduled twice a day and special care is taken to ensure they don’t conflict with the mermaid performances. That would be bad.
While the aquarium might be the big draw, the Silverton is also known for its award-winning accommodation, comfortable lounge spaces, and great food including the Twin Creeks Steakhouse. Then again, if you prefer to catch your own dinner you can always check out the Bass Pro Shop also located on the Silverton premises.
On paper Silverton has a lot going for it, with a unique hotel experience at reasonable prices. But the outdoorsy cottage vibe that the Silverton promotes might not be for everybody. So check out their website and make sure this matches what you want from your Las Vegas experience.
