Overview:

Will it be third time lucky for this resort on Lake Las Vegas, the artificial body of water 20 miles from Sin City? Now known as the Hilton Lake Las Vegas, the hotel has had two previous incarnations, first as a Ritz and then as a Ravella, and it’s only been open a decade. Part of the problem may be the property’s location, which prevents guests taking an impromptu stroll on the Strip whenever they feel like it.

Distance from the clamor of Sin City may be less a deterrent and more of an attraction for some guests. The hotel is incredibly peaceful, though perhaps the management could have made the place livelier. The Hilton features neither in-house shows nor a casino. Unless they want to take the hotel’s shuttle-bus to Vegas, guests’ entertainment choices are limited to the Firenze Lounge or the poolside Lagoon Bar & Grill.

Both of these two bars double as restaurants, though obviously the Lagoon option offers only casual eating, leaving only the Firenze for fine dining. Only one in-house restaurant for evening meals is a major disappointment.

The hotel’s exquisite Florentine décor, which includes an arched bridge over Lake Vegas that recalls Florence’s Ponte Vecchio, may placate guests disgruntled by the limited dining and entertainment options.

A reasonably affordable luxury option, the Hilton Lake Las Vegas is probably of most interest to visitors who aren’t focused on partying and gambling – such as guests at an intimate wedding. For that purpose the resort offers the Capella Di Amore, Vegas’ only over-water place to tie the knot. Brides and grooms looking for more action – and everyone else for that matter – would probably be better staying elsewhere.
