Overview:

The Golden Nugget Las Vegas should have an extensive and self-congratulatory ‘About Us’ section on their website. But they don’t, so we’re going to write it for them.

The Nugget is a legendary institution and is one of the most recognizable names in Vegas due to its pop-culture significance. And by ‘significance’ we are referring to its appearance in the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. With four towers and over 2,300 rooms, it is one of the largest downtown hotels. Built in 1946, it is also one of the oldest. Just how old is that in Vegas terms? The Nugget was the first casino to introduce the center deal – a dealer who deals the cards to players, for those who aren’t familiar with the term.

You may be wondering how a hotel old enough to get a seniors’ discount on movie tickets maintains such high praise. Turns out all you need is $300 million in renovations – $150 million of which went towards building the Rush Tower in 2009.

The entertainment is well above average, providing that you enjoy country music. With performers like Gretchen Wilson, Dwight Yoakam and Merle Haggard, the Nugget could fill a bucket with all the names they’re dropping.  If that’s not your thing, you can always check out the ‘Shark Tank’ tours.

The Nugget is home to a half-dozen locales where you can grab a drink, including the tank-side H20 Bar and the outdoorsy Bar 46. The dining options are diverse but not excessive, and include Vic & Anthony’s steakhouse, which was given a 2012 award of excellence by Wine Spectator.
