Yes, the Las Vegas Strip is a household name and attracts tourists from all over the globe, but does that mean you actually have to stay there when you visit Sin City? Here’s an alternative: book a Vegas hotel that’s close to the action yet peaceful and authentic enough to attract locals. Obviously, there are a number of Greater Las Vegas resorts to choose from, but one of our favorites has to be Arizona Charlie’s Decatur.

Situated north-west of the Strip, the Decatur, which is twinned with Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, another locals’ favorite, offers guests highly-affordable yet beautifully-decorated rooms and suites. Thankfully, the Decatur only has a few hundred rooms, unlike the crowded mega resorts on the Strip, so guests get peace and quiet as well as pampering.

While this hotel may not be on the Strip or downtown, it does have an impressive casino, which features more than 1,050 one-armed bandits, live keno, a poker room and, our own personal favorite, a 24-hour bingo parlor. The place is popular with Las Vegans, so guests get to experience a far more realistic gambling experience than they’ll ever find on the Strip.

Arizona Charlie’s Decatur’s high-quality dining options, such as Ron’s Steakhouse and the pizza place Noble Roman’s, are also popular with locals – and for good reason!  After guests have dined, they can socialize with regulars and get their groove on to local bands in the Naughty Ladies’ Saloon, Decatur’s kick-ass music venue.

Excellent value and offering visitors to Sin City a genuine – rather than touristy – good time, Arizona Charlie’s Decatur is one of the best resorts in Greater Las Vegas. So say, ‘No, thanks!’ to the Strip and go meet Charlie!
