The brain child of Bob Stupak, the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower was conceived as an addition to his Vegas World casino. Opened on April 30, 1996, it has since turned into an iconic Las Vegas property in its own right. This is in part thanks to the 1,149 ft Stratosphere Tower, the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the second tallest in the Western Hemisphere (surpassed only by the CN Tower in Toronto).
There’s much more to Stratosphere than the tower, however, as the property boasts 2,427 rooms, an 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2) casino, thrill rides, unparalleled views, and a wide range of exciting restaurants. This has made it one of the most popular casinos with tourists and residents of the north side of the strip, with its slot machine offerings, in particular, drawing big crowds. The Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower is now owned by American Casino & Entertainment Properties, which operates three other gaming properties in Clark County, Nevada.
